Howard Acoff Jr. HOWARD ACOFF JR (BIG HEARTY) BORN JANUARY 2ND,1956 BIRMINGHAM,ALABAMA BIOGRAPHY Howard became interested in music in High School, where he first picked up the trumpet. He first studied music theory and learned how to read music. Late, he became close friends with a guitarist named Leonard Cotton. Listening to Leonard play was a soul stirring experience. Leonard loved life and lived it to the fullest.it was that passion for music and life that reawakened Howard's love of music. Sadly, Leonard's life was cut short in a motorcycle accident. Refusing to let go Leonard's legacy die, Howard picked up the guitar. He had not played music in years but his fond memories of Leonard's playing inspired him to play every day. At 23 he joined the gospel group Birmihgham Spiritual and travelled the south, spreading his love of music and the lord. As a result of this intensive schedule of touring his playing dramatically improved. He was picked up for the Country Boy Eddie Show where he made regular TV Appearances. His Fame grew and he also began appearing on the Mr. Magic show. He recorded with BIRMINGHAM SPIRITUAL'S SILKY SMOOTH BAND and SHOW and many many churches as both lead and rhythm guitar. In response to the demand for his playing, Howard has released a solo CD entitled BIG HEARTY on which he wrote, arranged and sings all the songs. His friends call him Big Hearty "cause his smooth voice and quick fingers soothe a worried mind.
