The three musicians are well known in their fields. Mitzie Collins is a nationally-noted performer of traditional music and an active participant in the revival and growth of hammered-dulcimer playing. Alfred St. John, a native Trinidadian, has the soul of the islands in his pans - with his band "The Trinidad & Tobago Steel Band" he has performed all through the Northeast for many years, and is well versed in the history and evolution of this 20th century instrument. Omar Faruk Tekbilek is considered one of the foremost Middle-Eastern musicians in the world. Among his several albums are Suleyman the Magnificent and Firedance with Brian Keane on Celestial Harmonies, and he has made concert appearances worldwide. There is almost no describing World Resonance - the spirited collaboration of these fine musicians alone speaks to the nature of this fabulous album. An oversized insert with photos details the instrumentation, the history of the instruments, andincludes personal anecdotes about the well-known musicians and the way they came together for this project (which took four years to complete). |
