Lake Compounce Theme Park, located in Bristol, Connecticut, has the distinction of
being the oldest continually running amusement theme park in the United States.
The interesting history of the park dates back to 1846 and includes, among many other
notable events, the installation of Connecticut’s first ten-pin bowling alley,
the establishment, in 1875, of the still continuing Crocodile Club, and innovations
like the open air dance floor and thrilling Chris Craft speedboat rides.
In 1895 the restaurant served a full course dinner for $.50 and in 1929 boat rides
were $.15. No wonder thousands came from all over New England to enjoy the scenic park.
During the Big Band Era, dancing under the stars to the likes of the Dorsey band and young
singer Frank Sinatra kept the crowds coming.

Maintaining an historic carousel and a band organ is a true labor of love combined with
the skill of fine craftsmanship. In selecting the music, specially cutting the band
organ rolls, recording, and producing the final product, many people contributed their
expertise and knowledge to achieve the grand sound that the 153 Military Style Wurlitzer
Band Organ produces on this recording.
